The design quality of the selected luminaires must be determined by the quality or style of the architectural and interior design detailing and materials, from traditional silk shades to contemporary natural woods to high‐tech materials. It is rare for the room's detailing and materials to be determined by the lighting design solution, including the selection of luminaires. This aspect of luminaire selection is difficult to articulate because it deals with the elusive elements of aesthetics, style, and taste. Only long experience in a trial‐and‐error process over the course of many projects will enable the designer to make intelligent aesthetic decisions.
